Milk It!

How slow can you go? Start by learning a few combos at mid-tempo, then take parts or all of each and slow them waaaay down. Can you still command attention? It is the INTENTION. We will also talk about how subtle dynamic shifts using fast-twitch movement over stillness can bring your dance to the next level.

http://michellesbelly.com/

Based in Salt Lake City, UT, Michelle Sorensen is a professional Belly Dancer with nearly a decade of dedicated dance training. She began her studies under the direction of Kismet School of Dance (American), Kashmir Dance Company (ATS & Tribal Fusion), Trisha Mcbride (Tribal Fusion and Experimental) and more recently Rachel Brice (8 elements Phases 1 &2, Initiation and Cultivation Certified) and Stephanie Buranek (Cabaret/Egyptian). She has also sought continued instruction through workshops and other events from some of the most innovative dancers in and out of the belly dance scene. An award winning dancer, Michelle placed 1st at Fusion Fest in 2011, 2nd at Fusion Fest 2012, and 1st in the Ultimate Bellydancer best Fusion Solo August 2012! She joined Sketch Cabaret in the summer of 2012, and has been a member of Sepiatonic since the Spring of 2013. Occasionally she can also be seen performing with Voodoo Productions at both private and public events. Along with bellydance, she has discovered a love for the Aerial Arts, including pole, silks, lyra, contortion and various other cirque style apparatus. “Cross-training” in this form of dance has helped her with stamina, strength, flexibility and clean lines. Her life is also occupied with being a mother of 2 sweet little girls ages 5 and 3 and they are a constant inspiration to push boundaries and a reminder to explore! She is available for instruction, private lessons and workshops both locally and internationally.

Queen: A Night at the Opera

Presented by: Uncle Dad’s Art Collective

“Uncle Dad’s Art Collective deserves major respect, and a round of applause, for its grand thematic musical/theatrical productions.” - Chico News and Review

In November of 1975, British rock band Queen released one of the most artistically expansive albums of its time, A Night at the Opera. Now, 31 years later, Uncle Dad's Art Collective and the North State's finest performers present a reimagined version of A Night at the Opera. Come witness classic reinterpretations of Queen favorites like “You're My Best Friend,” “Love of My Life,” and “Bohemian Rhapsody.” The show features an array of music, dance, and other visual arts that are sure to transport the audience out of Chico and leave them wondering if this is real life, or just a fantasy!

Tribal de Chico Dance Workshop

Tribal de Chico's guest dancer; Karolina Lux, will be teaching this year's dance workshop:

Use Control to Lose Control

In this choreography workshop, Karolina uses a choreography with the intention of learning how to balance control in our lives as artists, to illustrate using our core engagement on stage. How do we convey wild release in performance, while still being in control and not spinning off the stage? How do we maintain inspired abandon and fiery creativity in our lives as artists while still having to take care of business? Through learning in dance, we learn information about how to live our lives! This choreography workshop is almost all movement. There is relevant, technical work and underlying sentiment, but dancers will be spinning, popping, grinding, leaping, and sweating through this workshop with the punch of modern and hip-hop influences. Be prepared to work on your core, consistency of turns, your lines on stage…and getting down with your bad self! The choreography is to music from an upbeat, techno brass ensemble. Nuff said!

Tribal de Chico workshop tickets are $40.00 online, and $50.00 at the door
